Filmmaker Lori Joyce has been clocking miles traveling with “Arise,” her documentary spotlighting women involved in environmental movements around the globe, among them: Kenya’s Judy Nyguthi Kimano, India’s Vandana Shiva and Denver’s own “food desert” foe Beverly Grant.
Here’s what the Austin Chronicle had to say after a recent screening:
Arise, with its vibrant and artistic cinematography, takes a less dogmatic, more compassionate route than many of its environmental activist counterparts, despite their shared message of the necessity for urgent change.
Tonight, Oct. 4, the Boulder-based director and her co-director — and daughter — Candace Orlando, are set to engage a hometown crowd when “Arise” has a one-night screening at the Denver Film Society’s Sie FilmCenter (7 p.m. 2510 E. Colfax Ave). For more info go to denverfilm.org or 303-595-FILM
